Shap Fell Bothy – Home

Welcome to the website of the Shap Fell Bothy and Camping Barn

(Please use drop-down menu above for description, availability, location etc.)

This Bothy and camping barn is located in a unique position 1400 feet (420 metres) above sea level in a wild and remote location, and yet close to the old A6 highway on Shap Fell summit. The Bothy is on the favourite cycle route from John’O’Groats to Land’s End.  There are footpaths and bridleways within 100 yards of the door, with open access to the high fells.

The accommodation is basic – imagine a stone tent – with accommodation on two floors. The Bothy has a slate roof and insulated walls, with gas heaters and a wood stove, so is warm and cosy. There is a small kitchen with double burner, and a small separate washroom. Tables, chairs, mattresses and crockery for up 4 people are included in the basic hire rate, Extra people are charged at £10.00 pppn. (Max. 8.)

A cleaning fee is payable once per booking. Most guests prefer to bring their own sleeping bags to keep the cost down, but bed linen and towels can be provided at a modest charge. Additional firewood and gas heaters,  are also available at extra cost.  (See Facilities and Prices page for details)

PLEASE NOTE:  During Covid we do not provide bedding, crockery, cutlery or pots and pans.
